“BLUEBERRY YUM YUM” ;)
I finally went to the over-hyped M&M Donuts in Anaheim on Katella (near Disneyland). After so many reviews about their “heavenly” blueberry donuts, I had to give them a try. I decided to go there tonight after Church since it was on my way back home. However, I got lost considering Google Maps gave me wrong directions. Haha, I found it a lot farther from where Google Maps placed the arrow.. yeah, I know. RETARDED!
I read on Yelp that the drive-thru goes faster than standing up in the actual line. I didn’t care too much about this technicality as I was eager to take that first bite of hyped “bliss.” I ended up being lazy and went straight to the drive-thru. I already knew what I wanted so I just skipped the small talk of asking recommendations from the employee and ordered a dozen (for $8). It came in a pizza box which I thought was weird, but maybe I’m assuming they ran out of their pink donut boxes. Still, what matters is the taste!
I automatically parked my car once I left the drive-thru. One bite… led to another bite.. and another.. until one was already finished. I was satisfied. I HATE things that are hyped because they tend to give people misleading preconceptions. I had one fore sure, but overall I wasn’t disappointed. Three more donuts were gone while driving back home.. and another one inhaled at my desk while doing HW. THEN, I got sick of it and gave the rest to my roommates. They obviously didn’t complain. HAH!
Imagine a freshly baked blueberry muffin in donut shaped form. Then layered over is the glaze from Krispy Kreme. That’s exactly what it tasted like. Bite into this warm treat and everything in your mouth just melts. Bottom line, M&M Donuts is a place to stop over, but NOT a place worth driving over half an hour for. I do have a huge sweet tooth but driving long distances to review a place highly rated on yelp is reserved for real food (steak, seafood, etc.), NOT desserts or sweets.
Overall: 4 Stars
Note: I tend to be a harsh critic even though I don’t nearly have the right credentials to make sound judgments. But still, I know what tastes good, and what tastes awful. Trust me, I hope to travel the world someday and taste everything just so my palette can be just as sensitive and sophisticated as Anthony Bourdain’s or Tom Collichio’s. Someday I will be a “refined” food geek. Lol.
